Fire Alarm Servicing and Maintenance

Why should fire alarm maintenance be carried out?

It is essential that all fire systems are regularly tested and maintained in order to prolong the life of the system and ensure any faults are promptly rectified. A system that is not maintained cannot be guaranteed to protect life and property. Furthermore the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that all fire safety equipment be "maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”.

How often should fire alarms be inspected, serviced and tested?

Fire alarm systems should be serviced in accordance with BS5839-1:2017 (BS5839-6:2013 for domestic and sleeping accommodation). Regular service and maintenance should be carried out at least twice per annum or quarterly depending on your fire risk assessment with weekly tests being carried out by the client.
