Fire Extinguisher Servicing


Why should extinguisher servicing be carried out?


Portable fire extinguishers and other portable fire fighting equipment such as fire blankets should be inspected and serviced regularly to ensure they will operate correctly in the event of fire. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that all fire safety equipment be "maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”. Portable fire extinguishers should be serviced by a competent person in accordance with BS5306:3 -2009. As part of any service our engineers not only carry out the service to BS5306:3-2009 but they also check that the equipment is installed correctly in accordance with BS5306:8-2012.

How often should extinguishers be inspected, serviced and tested?


BS5306:3-2009 recommends that extinguishers are inspected, serviced and tested as set out below:
